I start this story by sharing with you that on Friday before the class I filled my gas tank. I then drove around Woodstock collecting materials for the class. Next, I drove to Rifton round trip - it was 19 miles. I did this trip three times - the total mileage is 57 miles. When I got home Sunday night I had used almost 1/3 of a tank of gas.
Yesterday, I was in downtown Kingston having bodywork. I was just leaving my appointment, cozy in my car waiting to make a left hand turn onto Broadway. I noticed on the sidewalk next to me, a woman who was struggling to manage lots of packages on her bicycle. I could see there were small paintings, groceries, a wall clock and a bunch of other things. One of the bags was ripped; it could not hang on the handlebars.
There were about five bags in total, some looked heavy. She was trying to figure out a way to attach them to all her bicycle.
I thought it was going to be impossible for her to safely ride her bike home. I rolled my window down. I called out to her. She looked up at me and smiled. I asked her if she needed help getting her things home. She looked at me and said I was the answer to her prayer. I then offered to drive her belongings to her home.
She said she knew it was impossible to hang all her things on her bike. She was alone with no help. She was so excited to have help.
She gave me her address, it was about a mile from where we were. I told her we all have to share the love. She smiled at me again, her smile was beautiful. She looked me in the eyes and said, “YES!”
I got out of my car and gathered all of her bags and put them in the back seat of my car. She gave me her address. It was unfamiliar to me. I told her I’d put it into my GPS and I’d meet her at her house.
As I drove off I thought what a leap of faith it was for both of us. I wasn’t in a great neighborhood. She trusted that I wouldn’t run off with her things. We trusted each other, even though we had never met.
I arrived at her house and unloaded her things on her porch. A few minutes later I heard her in the distance, “Thank you!”, as she pedaled her way home up the hill. She jumped off her bike and told me that God was watching over her, her prayers had been answered.
She told me that she is a minister and had been sharing her words of praise at People’s Place, which is a wonderful community center, where people can go for food, clothing and resources.
When I first saw her, People’s Place had popped into my head. She is a fellow light worker!
I told her the only fee for bringing her groceries and packages home was a hug. We hugged each other, we held on tight. When we separated, she thanked me again, she told me I was beautiful inside and out. I told her she was too.
As I pulled away from her house, I thought how lucky I was to have met her. I didn’t get her name, yet I know we will always be friends.
I started my trip home, as I got back out onto the highway, I was feeling loved. My love tank was filled.
I then looked down at my gas tank. It was completely full. I had not filled up with gas since Friday and my gas tank was full. It was truly miraculous. I can’t explain how it happened. I stopped and turned the car off and then restarted the engine and it was still full.
Instantly, I thought of the story I told you about the little boy who needed his mom to fill his body with love, until his tank was filled.
Angels are watching over us! I do believe in miracles. Love brings us all together.
